Headteacher Vacancy

Sunrise Christian School is an independent Reformed Christian school serving families in the Glasgow area. The school’s Board of Directors is seeking to recruit a new Headteacher who will take forward its vision for the school and lead its continuing expansion and development. The school received a very positive inspection report at the end of its first year and has doubled in size over the past 12 months. We look forward to further growth with plans being formulated to secure larger permanent premises which will allow an increase in capacity to provide more places in our primary school and the development of both nursery and secondary schooling provision.

The closing date for applications is 31st May 2017, however, suitable candidates will be interviewed sooner and the vacancy may be filled. Applicants should send their CV and cover letter to Continue reading Headteacher Vacancy

A Letter from the Chairman of the Board

Dear Parent/Supporter

At a meeting of the School Board on Monday 9th January 2017 the Board received and accepted the resignation of Mr. Stephen McCollum as a teacher at Sunrise Christian School. Mr. McCollum tendered his resignation having received a request to become the minister of Stornoway Reformed Presbyterian Church.  The Board wishes to express its genuine heartfelt thanks to Stephen for the quality and manner of his dedicated leadership of the School.  Sunrise Christian School is in a good place today and that is primarily due to the hard work of Stephen, ably supported by his wife Brenda.  He has served the Lord well in this role and we truly wish him and Brenda God’s richest blessing for the future.

In terms of the schedule of events, here is what is going to happen, God willing.
– Stephen will continue in his role until the end of this term, that is the 31st March 2017.
– Our two teachers, Mrs Anna Stewart and Mrs Danielle Campbell, have been consulted and they will lead the school for the summer term.
– The Board has appointed a Recruitment Committee comprising; Rev. Andrew Quigley, Mr John Cormack, Mr Stephen McCollum, and Mrs Anna Stewart.  This Committee will commence immediately the recruitment process, with a view to bringing a proposal to the Board in the coming months for the appointment of a Principal Teacher in August 2017.

As we look forward to 2017, we are very conscious of the Lord’s hand being upon us in 2016.  During the calendar year we saw an increase in pupils from 5 full-time and 1 part-time and 4 children who were in for PE, to 19 full-time, 3 part-time and 4 for PE.   This has obviously increased income from school fees, and with a considerable increase in donations we have been able to increase in the teachers’ hourly rate of pay.  We are in the process of recruiting a paid part-time administrative secretary and we have also taken a decision to commence paying the expenses of our classroom assistants.  These decisions have been taken to honour biblical requirements of employment and care of people.

We wish to assure you that we have a clear plan, in the grace of God, for the ongoing development, of Sunrise Christian School.  This plan includes the future provision of a purpose built building and a continued proactive campaign of promotion of the school.

If you are a parent, we thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve you and your child. We trust that you will continue to have a positive experience of the school.

If you are a supporter of the school, thank you.  Along with the parents you are helping us to help develop what we trust will become, by the will of God, a well established reformed confessional Christian school.  All we ask is that you continue to invest in this Kingdom work as the Lord leads for His glory.

Yours in Christ,
Rev. Andrew Quigley

Young Entrepreneur of the Year?

We have a brand new entrepreneur at the school! David (P6) is running a fruit and vegetable stall to raise funds for our school. Working together with his parents, fruit is bought at a wholesale market and sold at competitive prices. This week David sold gala apples, clementines, red peppers, carrots, grapes, and blueberries. He has bold plans to keep going with this through the year and will possibly sell different produce depending on the week. David has already turned over quite the profit in the first week, over £30! This new venture provides wonderful opportunities to think about enterprise and use real world practice for maths.

David’s customers have all commented favourably on the quality of the produce, and even our pupils have been buying some healthy treats. Emma considers the grapes as the best ever and Hugh thinks the apples are delicious! Logan rightly said that David’s stall is a great idea because it keeps us healthy and Beth added that it’s good to raise money for the school at the same time. Naomi bought some produce today and remarked that the prices were better than the shops!

Below is the email that David wrote to send out to the school community to introduce the idea:

Dear parents and friends,

In Enterprise Class I suggested to Mr McCollum that I could try and sell fruit and vegetables with all profits going to Sunrise Christian School.

So from next week I hope to be able to serve you with:

  • Quality, fresh fruit and vegetables.
  • The variety will depend on what is seasonal and good value.
  • Prices will be comparable with supermarket prices and may vary from week to week depending on purchase price.

I am still deciding the best way to provide it, but possibly I would take produce in for selling on 2 days (maybe Tuesday and Thursday), and it would be available for buying after school at pick-up time.  If you want items other days you could let me (or my mum) know.

The success of this will depend on demand.

Kind regards

Well done, David!

December Prayer Requests

Thank you for every person who prays for us. We really appreciate your prayers and see the Lord answering them in so many ways.

Give thanks for:
–the progress that has been made in developing the school.
-all those who volunteer to help the school in various ways. It is really encouraging to have an enthusiastic  team that is working together to advance the school. We have a harmonious working environment.
-how well the pupils are using their gifts and talents. This is demonstrated by the encouraging Parent-Teacher interviews.

Please pray for:
-a new building so that we can continue to expand at our current rate. We will soon outgrow our premises – a great problem to have!
-that all our pupils would receive a new heart and live a life honouring God.
-God to use us to labour in His kingdom.
-grace to finish the term well as we approach the winter holidays.
-wisdom for those considering Christian education for their children.

Student Teaching at Sunrise

For the past few weeks we have had Rianne Meerkerk, a Dutch student teacher, at Sunrise. Rianne studies at the Driestar in Gouda, Netherlands. This is a Christian teacher training college that is Reformed in its theology. We were very glad to have Rianne study with us and are thankful for all her support. There are lots of Reformed schools in the Netherlands and we are thankful for every partnership in this important work.
